Bubblegum Lip Scrub Recipe

Bubblegum Lip ScrubI love Lush’s bubblegum lip scrub, but the price is outrageous and I find the taste…slightly odd. Probably the castor oil. Here’s an alternative that is gift-able, simple to make, much cheaper, and so delicious!

Don’t forgot your lips  — Keep them pouting smooth with this Bubble Gum Lip Scrub Recipe.  All natural and vegan, and a totally edible finished product.  This scrub can be used daily just before you add your lip stick or gloss.

Bubblegum Lip Scrub Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Caster Sugar (extra fine sugar)
  • Jojoba Oil
  • Natural Flavor Oil
  • Vitamin E Oil
  • Lip Tints (Crimson & Melon) mixed to make pink
  • Glass Jar & Label
bubblegum flavorWith a small pipette or dropper, add a drop or two of the flavoring to two tablespoons of sugar. Add gradually and taste as you go! If you over do it, mix in a bit more sugar.

adding flavor

Now, we need this to be a bright pink, so add one drop of red food coloring.

adding color

Mix well. To get a silky smooth finish to your scrub, you’ll want to add some oil. You can use castor, or jojoba, or olive oil. But I thought vitamin E oil would work perfectly and not have a weird taste. I used about a teaspoon.

Lick your lips, dip your finger into your scrub to scoop a little out, and rub. When you’re done you can rinse…but why do that when you can lick your lips?!?!

Add sugar (as much as you’d like to make) to a stainless steel bowl.Drizzle jojoba oil into the sugar until it is coated, but not runny.  Add your flavor oil (as much as you’d like) and stir well.   Mix some of the lip balm tints into a little jojoba oil until you obtain the pink color and mix it in a little at a time.  Add a few drops of Vitamin E oil.  Spoon into jars and label.  This is a very easy Bubblegum Lip Scrub recipe and you can add any flavor you like.
Shelf life 1-2 yrs.

Use: Scoop out a small amount of the scrub and rub into lips for 30 seconds.  Rinse.

Sugar Lip Scrub Recipe

Making your own lip scrub is easy, you are basically making a paste using super fine sugar and oil or vegetable glycerin. Superfine sugar can be purchased in the bar tending section of your grocery store, to make your own lip scrub, as well as Safflower oil which is naturally high in vitamin e.

You do not need a preservative when you are working with oil based products or vegetable glycerin. Vegetable Glycerin is water based, but is so high in natural alcohol, it also does not need a preservative when making a lip scrub with it. It will not mix with oil, so make your choice between the two. The only way lip scrub can go bad is just over time, oil based products can go rancid. That just means store your lip scrubs in a cool dark place and they should last a year or two. Because lip scrubs can “clump” after a few months, it is probably best to make them “fresh” as you need it. I have never figured out a way to stop clumping. Lets make some sugar lip scrub.

Sugar Lip Scrub Recipe

Ingredients:
  • 1 T coconut oil, in solid form
  • 1 T honey
  • 1 T brown sugar (I used light because it’s what I had on hand. I don’t think dark brown sugar would make a difference)
IMG 2875
1. Add 1 T coconut oil in its solid state to a bowl.  If the oil is clumpy, whip it up until it is smooth. Then add 1 T honey to it and whip up until it looks something like this:
IMG 2876
2. Add 1 T brown sugar and mix together. Put in a little container and you’re done! Total prep time? 3 minutes! Also, this doesn’t need to be refrigerated.
*note: if you find the scrub is too abrasive, try 2 teaspoons of brown sugar instead.  I’ve tried both and prefer 1 T.*

Sugar Lip Scrub Instructions

To use: rub a little sugar lip scrub on your lips for 30 seconds-1 minute. You can then let it rest for 3-5 minutes to let the oil penetrate and moisturize your lips, or you can lick it off (it tastes delicious…or so I was told…) or wipe it off. Repeat 2-3 times a week. Enjoy you’re soft, sumptuous lips.

Vegan Lip Scrub Recipe

Vegan-Lip-Scrub-RecipeMy lips have taken a real beating over the last week. The British weather really is designed to confuse and we get a reputation for always talking about it, but if you had weather that changed so frequently an so massively, you would too!!

This vegan lip scrub recipe’s secret is in the agave nectar (no honey needed!); it also contains vanilla extract for that delicious kick.

It’s easy-peasy to make your own version of wonderful lip scrub without any harsh chemicals, animal ingredients or artificial anything in 3 simple steps.  Here’s a great, truly-natural tip to give you softer, more supple lips. Enjoy!

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

  • Apply a moisturizing lip balm.
  • Use as often as needed.
  • Softly press mixture on lips in circular motion.  The mixture will get into your mouth, but no worries.  Everything is natural and edible and, not to mention, nutritious.  Rinse with warm water and pat dry.  DO NOT LICK LIPS!

Sugar Honey Lip Scrub Recipe

How to get the softest kissable lips it’s simple! Just use honey, olive oil and sugar. Sugar acts as the abrasive and it dissolves so you don’t need to worry about “grit” getting in your mouth. Honey has anti-bacterial properties, is usually non-allergenic, and tastes good. Olive oil moisturizes, protects, soothes, is tasteless in the scrub, and is non-toxic and generally non-allergenic. It won’t clog your pores around the mouth either.

Each batch should be good for 1 week.

Apply the Sugar Honey Lip Scrub to lips, gently rubbing in a circular motion.  Rinse off excess with water.  The brown sugar will rinse off leaving a small amount of the olive oil behind, which adds moisture and a little shine to your lips.  Follow with your favorite all-natural lip balm if desired.  This recipe makes enough for one application.

How to use:

  • Take a dime size amount of scrub and rub gently onto dry lips.
  • Gently rub until some of the sugar has dissolved.
  • Rinse well with warm water.
  • Apply lip balm as necessary.
  • Use twice a week and your lips should be silky soft.

Peppermint Lip Scrub Recipe

Peppermint-Lip-Scrub-RecipeAnother beautiful Friday and that means another DIY project.  This week:  make your own lip scrub with natural ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen.

There’s no need to spend money on a lip scrub when you can make it yourself – for less – and you control what goes in it.

So gather up your supplies, and say goodbye to rough, dry lips! Try out this Peppermint Lip Scrub Recipe below.

Peppermint Lip Scrub Recipe

Ingredients:

  • One Pot for storage
  • 1/2 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon caster sugar
  • Peppermint oil
  • Almond Oil/Vitamin E oil
  • Glass Ramekin (for mixing)

Peppermint Lip Scrub Instructions

To make:  Pour the sugar into the ramekin and then add the oils depending how you want the consistency of the lip scrub. I used about a quarter of a teaspoons of each oil as I like to add the liquid so there is enough flavor and enough liquid for it to hold together, but not so the solution is runny.  A variant of this scrub is that it can be used with lemon oil as well, or generally any other COOKING oil you like the taste of!

To Use: To use the scrub dab a small amount onto lips and rub together to gently exfoliate. You can then lick off the scrub or wipe off with a cloth.  This product can be stored at room temperature.

Tip:  If you have Vitamin E capsules, poke one with a pin and squeeze the oil into your Peppermint Lip Scrub Recipe.

Lemon Lip Scrub Recipe

Lemon-Lip-ScrubI have an obsession with chapstick! I pretty much always have some form of either chapstick or lip ointment in my bag! That doesn’t mean my lips are always soft, I am constantly treating my lips every chance I get! Of course I love a great lip scrub and some are definitely better than others!! This is by far one of my favorites to date!

Cosmetics companies are putting out lip scrubs and another such gubbins so we too can have super smooth lips, how nice of them. Only I’m not really prepared to pay lots of money for these products. So I made my own.

Lemon Lip Scrub Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Juice of  1/2 a lemon
  • 100g soft brown sugar
  • Runny honey
  • Olive oil
  • A bowl
  • Wooden spoon

Lemon Lip Scrub Instructions

Put the half soft brown sugar into a bowl slowly add enough honey to mix into a firm paste – almost so it comes together in chunks. Then pour in olive oil bit by bit until reaches a thin but not runny consistency. Add the lemon juice and mix in very well. Finish by adding the remainder of brown sugar and stirring until the paste is almost hummus like in consistency. Add more honey or oil if you feel the mixture needs it, just make sure it isn’t sloppy. Now you have Lemon Lip Scrub recipe.

You can then pack the scrub into a small leftover pot or tin and pop in the fridge to keep it fresh.

The brown sugar is just rough enough to rub off the dry skin without damaging your lips, the lemon prevents infections and the oil and honey soften your lips into kissable submission. Mwah!

DIY Brown Sugar Lip Scrub

I don’t know about you, but recently my lips have been getting unusually dry no matter how much chapstick or lip balm I use. I can’t really complain about freezing temperatures because that’s not really an issue in L.A., but I still think it’s caused by the weather constantly changing from cold to hot and back to cold again. The drying effects of my space heater and air conditioner (which have been running on a daily rotation) have not been helping either. I’ve realized that no amount of lip balm is really going to help without some proper exfoliation!

Lip Scrub Ingredients

Here’s my recipe for a moisturizing brown sugar lip scrub that will help exfoliate your dry, chapped lips better than just using a washcloth. The brown sugar will remove dead skin while the olive oil and honey help restore lost moisture.

*Bonus: you most likely already have all of the ingredients at home and this is much cheaper than just buying a manufactured lip scrub from Sephora.

Brown Sugar Lip Scrub Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. olive oil
  • 1 tsp. honey
  • squeeze of lip balm

Brown Sugar Lip Scrub Instructions

Combine all of the ingredients in a small bowl and mix together until it forms a thick, sugary paste. I added some Rosebud Salve Lip Balm mainly to get rid of it…I’m not really a huge fan but it went well in this scrub!

Massage a generous amount of the scrub onto your lips in a circular motion to remove dry, dead skin. Be careful not to scrub too hard. It should not hurt or scratch your lips.

Wash the scrub off using warm water and then apply your favorite lip balm or chapstick to help lock in the moisture.

Brown Sugar Lip Scrub1

End result: It completely exfoliated my lips and left them feeling much smoother and less dry. Weekly use before bed will help keep lips consistently smooth and moisturized.

(notes: If you have a little pot of lip balm that you don’t really use/like you could just make the lip scrub with that balm and keep it in that pot for about a month)

DIY Sugar Lip Scrub

This week we’re turning to our friend and beauty expert Sarah Howard, of Beauty Banter, who is indulging us with her delectable brown sugar lip scrub tutorial. Inspired by one of her favorite lip polishes, Sarah recently discovered how simple it was to make her own organic version at home. The timing couldn’t be more ideal as winter’s typically unforgiving weather has us yearning for soft and smooth lips! (PS Be sure to head over to Beauty Banter for our favorite beauty products & tips!)

Sugar Lip Scrub Recipe

You’ll need:

  • pure coconut oil
  • honey
  • brown sugar
  • a teaspoon
  • a tablespoon
  • a mixing bowl
  • an empty jar or 2.5 oz baby food jar
  • labels (optional)

Sugar Lip Scrub Instructions

Make sure that the coconut oil is solid enough to scoop up but soft enough for a spoon to dig in. If the coconut oil is too oily, stick it in the fridge for 10-20 minutes. If the coconut oil is too hard, place it into a sink filled with hot water for 5-10 minutes or until soft. Combine one well-rounded tablespoon of coconut oil with one tablespoon of honey into the bowl. Besides smelling and tasting incredible, coconut oil is actually an amazing natural ingredient for skin and body products. The oil contains fatty acids and antioxidants that moisturize and nourish the skin while honey contains cleansing and healing properties and is a natural binder.

sugarlipscrub2

Mix the coconut oil and honey until they bind together. The consistency should look like thick honey-comb honey. Make sure to mash up all of the coconut lumps so that the mixture is clump-free. This will serve as the base of the scrub.

sugarlipscrub31

Add two hand packed teaspoons of brown sugar and fold it into the base. Brown sugar not only tastes fantastic, it is also a great natural exfoliant because it’s not too harsh and leaves skin soft to the touch. All of the brown sugar should be coated in the coconut oil and honey base.

sugarlipscrub4

Add one teaspoon of just the oil from coconut oil jar into the bowl. This will help smooth out the mixture and make the Sugar Lip Scrub extra moisturizing. Transfer the scrub from the bowl into a small jar or container.

sugarlipscrub5

The edible Sugar Lip Scrub will last up to 2 weeks if refrigerated. Before using, allow the scrub to stand at room temperature for a good 10 minutes so that the formula softens a bit. Apply scrub to lips in small, circular motions for 1-2 minutes and rinse off with a warm washcloth. Congratulations – you are now armed with a soft, moisturized, and plump pout. Pucker up! xx, Sarah.
