Diy Lip Scrub That’s Good Enough To Eat

Has winter left you with Freddy Krueger lips? Ugh, me too. So when my chapstick wasn’t cutting it, I took the opportunity to DIY myself a good lip scrub. A lip scrub helps gently remove dead skin and freshen your lips so you can reboot your pout. I didn’t even have to go shopping—everything I needed was in my pantry or medicine cabinet! It took me all of two minutes, and now my lips are baby soft. And as an added bonus—all that massaging left my lips pink and plump! Here’s how to make your own:

DIY Sugar Honey Lip Scrub

INGREDIENTS

Lip Scrub

• 1 tbsp. Vaseline (a natural salve or balm can be substituted if petroleum’s not your bag) • 1 tbsp. Honey • 2 tbsp. Sugar (I prefer white—it’s grainier) • Flavor (here’s where you can get creative—I mixed in a squirt of chocolate syrup, but feel free to use maple, caramel, strawberry, or even a drop or two of your favorite essential oil) orig

Then scoop a silver dollar-sized amount onto your lips (try to resist the urge to eat it!) and slowly massage it in for 1-3 minutes. You can massage with an old toothbrush for extra exfoliation. Then rinse the mixture off your lips and smooth on your favorite lip balm. This sugar honey lip scrub is very useful to you. Now go kiss someone!

DIY Cinnamon Honey Sugar Lip Scrub

As you all know, I’m on my diy “spa” treatment kick and I’m still loving it.  In honor of Valentine’s Day, I was looking around the web for a diy lip exfoliation recipe.  I found this great cinnamon honey sugar lip scrub at Deliciously Organized.  It’s super easy but I changed it up a bit.

  • I decided to add honey since honey is great for your skin
  • Since the skin on your lips is very delicate, I decided to use regular sugar instead of turbinado/brown mix.
  • I didn’t have cinnamon oil but I’m loving the olive oil/coconut oil combo so used this instead (use light olive oil and refined coconut oil, like Lou Ana, if you do not want these oils to add any flavor to your lip sugar scrub).
  • I added a smidgen of ground cinnamon for flavor.
It’s super easy and I bet you have everything you need in your kitchen.  Check it out!

Cinnamon Honey Sugar Lip Scrub

Ingredients:
1 Tbsp coconut oil
1 Tbsp olive oil
1 Tbsp honey
4 Tbsp granulated sugar (NOT powdered)
Dash of cinnamon (approx 1/16 tsp)
Cinnamon Honey
Place the coconut oil and olive oil in a microwave safe bowl and microwave on high 30 seconds.  The coconut oil will not be completely melted but that’s okay.  You just want it to be easily incorporated with the other ingredients.

Best Lip Scrub Recipe for Smooth, Kissable, Luscious Lips!

How to Make an Exfoliating Lip Scrub

Want smooth, sexy, supple lips?  Lips need more that just a balm or gloss to keep them silky, kissable, and hydrated.  Exfoliate!  Say goodbye to dry flaky lips with these easy lip scrub recipes that use some simple ingredients from your kitchen pantry.

What is Exfoliation?

In a nut shell, exfoliation is the removal of old dead skin cells from the surface of the skin.

Why Exfoliate?

Since lip skin does not have hair, nor does it have sweat glands or sebaceous glands, lips do not have the usual protection that keeps skin smooth and supple.  This explains why the lips have a tendency to become more easily chapped and dehydrated.  Just like our face, lips need to be properly cared for if you want a smooth lip color application that is going to last.

Lip Exfoliation Benefits:

  • Properly exfoliated lips are less prone to chapping
  • Lip color goes on more smooth
  • Lip color stays on better

Benefits to making your own Lip Scrub

  • Less expensive than pre-made lip scrub or lip exfoliant
  • Always fresh!  Make only what you need!
  • No harmful chemicals; use natural ingredients from your kitchen!

Best Lip Scrub Recipe for Smooth, Kissable, Luscious Lips!

 Things You’ll Need:

  • Small Bowl
  • Spoon
  • 1 tsp Brown Sugar
  • ½ tsp Olive Oil or Coconut Oil
  • Toothbrush with “soft” bristles (optional)

How to use lip scrub?

 Step by Step Instructions:

  1. In the small bowl, mix brown sugar and olive oil (or coconut oil) together using a spoon.  The mixture should be a paste-like consistency.
  2. Using your index finger and your middle finger, scoop some of the lip scrub mixture onto your fingers; gently pat the mixture onto your lips.
  3. Using a circular motion, move your fingers gently around your entire lip area for approximately 10 seconds.  Note:  for advanced exfoliation, use a soft bristled toothbrush and “lightly brush” the mixture in a circular motion around your lip area.  Don’t brush too hard!
  4. Let the mixture sit for 2 minutes.
  5. Rinse mixture away from your lips with warm water.
  6. Immediately apply olive oil or coconut oil to soothe your lip area.  Use weekly.

Salt or Sugar?

Although salt scrubs are great for the body, we do not recommend the use of salt as a substitute for sugar when making a lip scrub.  Sugar tastes more yummy, but most importantly, salt can be irritating to your lips.

Caution!

Don’t over exfoliate!  Lip scrub should only be used once per week.  Lip tissue is extremely sensitive and the use of lip scrubs too often can result in damaged lip tissue.

Steps To Follow:

Step : 1

Start by adding the sugar to the honey. Don’t fret if you don’t have brown sugar. White sugar is just its refined cousin, and totally useable in this case.

Step : 2

Add the petroleum jelly, give it a mix and then add the olive oil. Olive oil is packed with moisture that chapped lips need.

Step : 3

In goes your vanilla essence, or basically any flavor you want to infuse in your scrub. Give it a good mix till everything is properly mixed.

Step : 4

And voila! That’s your very own sugar lip scrub, ready in less than 10 minutes.

Step : 5

Plop this heavenly gooey scrub into a plastic or glass jar, an airtight one and it will stay in the refrigerator for around 2 weeks.

Tip:

Bring it to room temperature before you use it. Apply the scrub on your lips, leave on for a minute or two- this way it will soften up your dead cells. Then using your index finger, scrub with light pressure and wash and wife off with a napkin. You lips are oh-so-ready-for-red lipstick! Don’t forget to moisturize them every night.

Popcorn Lip Scrub

Hey girls! You’re in for a treat today, a chocolate treat! Everyone loves chocolate right? I have a homemade completely edible (I know, because I ate it) chocolate and vanilla sugar lip scrub recipe for you all. An exfoliating lip scrub has many benefits especially in the winter months when our lips tend to become more dry. I know, for me, my lips are dry and flaky all winter long and I absolutely need a great exfoliation treatment. I’ve tried many and some are great, some are ok but most just suck, to be honest. I tried the popcorn lip scrub from Lush and it was the worst experience ever, I felt like it was just gross and didn’t really work. I like to exfoliate my lips nightly and apply some lip balm before bed but also before applying lipstick. They also work great as a lip plumper, if you scrub it on with a toothbrush it will kind of work towards plumping your lips and be a  nice addition for a bold lip. So I set out last night to try a new homemade sugar  recipe with a few suggestions from Facebook and Twitter, and I’m loving what I came up with!

DIY Lip Scrub Homemade

How to make lip scrub at home

INGREDIENTS

  • Vanilla Extract
  • Sugar
  • Olive Oil
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Small Bowl
DIRECTIONS
Gather your ingredients, add 1 Tbsp of sugar, 1/2 tsp cocoa powder, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract and a 1/2 tsp of oil and mix well. Apply with your fingers or toothbrush onto your lips for about 30 seconds and rinse with luke warm water or you could eat it (like I did lol).
It’s super easy and delicious! Plus, it’s way cheaper then buying a high end exfoliator and is a quick fix with things most of us already have in our homes. You could change it up and add lemon or lime juice instead of vanilla and cocoa if you’re looking for a different flavor, even some flavored kool aid or tea, the possibilities are endless.
