DIY Home Made Lip Scrub

This time of year, lips tend to need a little bit more loving.  With the cold, dry weather, lips have a tendency to dry out and flake more easily, which is why it’s so important to take care of them in order to keep them looking soft and kissable.

In order to do this, I think there are two key steps that need to be taken – exfoliation and moisturizing.  Exfoliating is definitely an important starting point, as it’s the best way to remove chapped skin from your lips so that you have a smooth base to start with (lipstick on chapped lips = HUGE no no!).  One of the easiest ways to do this is by using a lip scrub, so I have an extremely easy recipe for one for you – check it out below.  Chances are, you already have everything you need sitting in your kitchen.

DIY Lip Scrub Recipe

Ingredients needed (please note that these are just to give you a general idea – you can adjust to whatever consistency you like) :

1 tbsp brown sugar

1 tbsp coconut oil (you can also use olive oil, it will achieve the same effect)

1 ½ tsp honey

Combine all three ingredients and mix together until well blended and smooth.  That’s basically it!  If the coconut oil is too thick to blend easily, you can heat it up for about 10 seconds to soften it a little.  The granular brown sugar is perfect for loosening the dry skin, which the coconut oil helps to moisturize your lips even after the Lip scrub is washed off.

To use this, rub a small amount into your lips using circular motions for about a minute to soften the dry skin.  To remove, you can use a warm, damp washcloth. You’ll be left with soft, moisturized lips.

I’m going to suggest picking up a small jar (I got mine at Dollarama) to hold the remaining Lip scrub so you can keep using it – it will keep in the fridge for about 2 weeks, so you will be able to get several uses out of it.
